Missing the birth of your child is something no parent should have to endure – but for our men and women overseas, missing out on important life moments is an unfortunate reality. Such was the case for Sergeant John Vorrath and his family. His wife, Janae, was about to give birth to their second child and he was stationed thousands of miles away in the Middle East.
Thankfully Sergeant Vorrath was able to watch the birth of his daughter, Charlotte, over FaceTime while he was overseas. He and his family had come to terms with the idea that John wouldn’t be able to meet his daughter until she was six months old. There was nothing they could do about it – or so they thought!
While watching his daughter’s birth, John was handed a note saying that he was granted leave. Twenty-two long hours later he showed up at his wife’s hospital room and gave his family the shock of a lifetime. Not only did he get to meet his newborn baby girl, but he also got to see his two-year-old son for the first time since he was deployed! The Vorraths were able to spend an amazing week together before John was shipped back out to duty.
