Who do your children look up to? Maybe they particularly like seeing firefighters in action, or perhaps they dream of becoming a professional ballerina or a veterinarian. There are all kinds of rewarding professions that can catch our child’s eye and inspire them, but one sweet girl named Brooklyn has an adorable infatuation with someone a little unexpected.
Brooklyn lives in Bloomington, Illinois, and every Thursday she waits by her window for her favorite person to drive by. This very special person is Delvar, and his a garbage man in the area. Up until recently, Brooklyn had never met Delvar – or as she and her mother refer to him: “our favorite awesome smiley garbage man” – she would just happily wave at him from her spot by the window, which he would always return.
“It started with waving from the window, then we had to try and be outside to wave, and when we missed the truck driving by the house, I’d drive around the neighborhood to find the garbage truck and wave… on our way out the door in the mornings. Every… Thursday, my heart is full when I see the joy that our amazing garbage man brings Brooklyn when he honks and waves at her with a BIG smile.” Brooklyn’s mom shared.
But then, Brooklyn got an even better treat: she got to actually meet her favorite garbage man! Brooklyn’s birthday was the day before, so she and her mom wrapped up one of her birthday cupcakes to bring out to Delvar. Brookyln’s mom waved the garbage man over so Brooklyn could present him with his gift.
“When he came down our street, she ran to the corner. We were waving like usual and I motioned for him to come over by us. He pulled over, got out and gave us his BIG smile. Brooklyn was instantly speechless as she handed him the cupcake. I explained to him that he makes our day every Thursday, and we really appreciate the honking and waving, and how special of a day it is for us.”
This is where this cute story gets even cuter! Delvar said that seeing Brooklyn wave to him from the window is the best part of his Thursday, too!
“He said that he has a meeting every Thursday morning and always tries to get out of there in a hurry so that he can make sure to see us every week.” Brooklyn’s mom snapped a couple precious pictures of the encounter, and later on when she was driving her daughter to daycare, the young girl announced: “Mommy I’m so happy.”
The exchange from that morning meant so much to Brooklyn, and we think it’s safe to say it was a special interaction for Delvar too! Brooklyn’s mother couldn’t express enough gratitude to their “favorite awesome smiley garbage man” enough.
“Thank you for the joy that you bring Brooklyn every Thursday morning, for making her birthday special, and for making my heart happy. It may be a little thing that you do, but it means so much to us!”
We’re so happy that Brooklyn got to finally meet her favorite garbage man! What do you think of these adorable friends?
